Anaphylaxis/Nut-safe Information:

“Anaphylaxis” means a severe systemic allergic reaction which can be fatal, resulting in circulatory collapse or shock.  It is marked by swelling of the throat and/or tongue, hives and difficulty breathing. Other symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhea or cramping.

Bronte Harbour Nursery School, as a licensed childcare facility, is required to maintain a NUT-SAFE environment.  As other groups use our space in the evenings and when the nursery school is closed, we regret that we cannot guarantee that we are nut-free.

We will, however, do everything we can to reduce the risk of exposure to anaphylactic causative agents. The following is a list of items banned by the school:  peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, fish, and latex products.  Should a child with an anaphylactic allergy to any other food, not listed above, be enrolled in the program, we will ban those items as well for the duration of that child’s attendance. A list of banned foods will be posted in the snack area, and updated/revised as necessary.  As this list is subject to change, please speak to the Executive Director to get the most up-to-date information.

Your child’s safety is our priority, so if your child has a life-threatening allergy, you will be required to create an Individual Anaphylaxis Emergency Plan (IAEP) by filling out the following forms: Anaphylactic Allergy/Epinephrine Auto Injector Policy Agreement Form, the Epinephrine Auto Injector Authorization Form and Anaphylaxis Emergency Plan. Parents are required to supply Bronte Harbour Nursery School with 2 Epipens for their child. In the event one Epipen fails, or another needs to be administered before medical help arrives, it is vital that we have a spare Epipen on hand.

These forms, when filled in, will provide complete information on the allergy, triggers, medications, banned foods and the emergency procedures in respect of the child. Training is to be provided by the parent or a physician on the procedures to be followed in the event of a child having an anaphylactic reaction.

Should your child be diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy once they are enrolled in Bronte Harbour Nursery School, please be sure to notify the Executive Director immediately so that appropriate measures can be taken to ensure your child’s safety.

Bronte Harbour Nursery School has an Anaphylaxis Policy that our staff are required to be familiar with, and that they must review at least twice a year.

Registration, Fees and Payment:

A non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of registration. This fee must be submitted with the completed registration forms.
Registration fees are as follows:
*If you register your child for the upcoming school year between Feb. 1st and July 1st, we offer a reduced registration fee of $50.00
*If you register your child after July 1st, the registration fee is $75.00

Registration for September for new families begins each year on February 1st. Our program fees are calculated on an annual basis, and for your convenience, are divided into 10 equal monthly instalments. When registering your child for September, your first instalment fee is to be paid by post-dated cheque dated JULY 1 of that year. This fee is non-returnable/non-refundable after JUNE 1, in keeping with our withdrawal policy that requires one month’s notice of intent to withdraw.

Any enrolment that takes place after June 1st requires your September (or first month, if not starting in September) instalment fee to be paid immediately, and is non-refundable.

Post-dated cheques for the remaining monthly payments from October 1-June 1 must be received with your registration forms.

Cheques are made payable to BRONTE HARBOUR NURSERY SCHOOL INC.

*Families that already have a child or children enrolled at Bronte Harbour Nursery School prior to February 1st each year have the option to register for the upcoming school year during the month of January, before the enrolment opens to the public on February 1st. The same registration policy as above applies.

For cheques returned by the bank, for NSF or any other reason, the full fee must be repaid immediately along with a $25.00 processing fee. Two NSF cheques may result in a certified cheque only fee payment arrangement.

If you wish to withdraw your child, we require one month’s written notice in advance of your withdrawal. You are responsible for the fees for this one-month notice period. We do not refund partial months. Re-enrolment within the same school year is not permitted.

The health of your children is very important to us. Signs and symptoms of illness that would require you to keep your child home include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • A fever within the previous 24 hours
  • A contagious disease (i.e. measles)
  • Diarrhea within the previous 24 hours
  • Thick yellow or green nasal discharge
  • Coughing or sneezing spells that may result in the transfer of infectious germs
  • Any flu-like symptoms
  • Fatigue or illness that would prevent or interfere with full participation in the program

Should your child become ill while in attendance at the school, we will contact you immediately to pick your child up.

Prescription and/or over the counter medications will not be administered at school, with the exception of asthma inhalers and Epipens, unless absolutely necessary. Please do not leave drugs or medications of any kind in the children’s backpacks.

Should your child require a prescription medication, (other than asthma inhalers or Epipens) we respectfully ask that you arrange dosage times to occur before or after nursery school whenever possible. If this cannot be arranged, please see the Executive Director to make arrangements for the administration of prescription medication for your child. You will be required to fill out a Medication Authorization Form, that indicates the times and doses of the medication to be given.  We will ONLY administer drugs or medication when they are provided to us in the original container, that is, clearly labeled with the child’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage of the medication, the date of purchase, and instructions for storage and administration of the medication.

Statutory Holidays and Closures:

The Nursery School will be closed for all statutory holidays, including Easter Monday.  In addition, we will be closed during the school holidays in December (2 weeks) and March (1 week).  As our fees are calculated on an annual basis, and divided into equal monthly instalments, your monthly instalment fee does not change for holidays, illness, vacations or any other absences.

We are open on all PA days.

Storm Closures:

Extreme weather conditions (i.e. Snowstorms) may result in the school being closed for the day.  If the Halton School Board closes schools for the day, then we are also closed.  If the Halton School Board cancels their school bus transportation for their students, then the decision as to whether Bronte Harbour will open or close for the day rests with the Executive Director.  The Executive Director will make the decision that best protects the safety and well being of the families and staff of Bronte Harbour Nursery School.  Please note: there is no fee reduction for the missed program day should a storm closure occur.  *Closures of the Nursery School will be announced in the outgoing voicemail message by 8:00am, so be sure to call the school at 905-465-3508 if in doubt.
